We are all here to live every situation you can imagine, good or bad; right or wrong; positive or negative. Why? So we can learn from the experience as part of the adventure of life. Murray Kibblewhite
CASE STUDY – HOW TO GET HELP?
Recently I had a meeting with a client regarding her proposed new business options. They were limited. While she was very experienced in investigating and applying for consents and rights for property development, subdivisions and building construction both in China and New Zealand, her skills did not lend themselves for her to easily become self-employed.
So at our last meeting, she arrived with two business girlfriends. One was working with her father in her family business supplying steel pipes to the construction industry.
The other friend was a successful real estate salesperson working with Auckland’s largest Real Estate agency. The Real Estate market at this time was booming so she looked and acted in a very confident manner.
My client was Chinese, a solo mother with few assets as she had lost rights through her divorce, and was now experiencing a difficult time financially. The big question – how could she set herself up in her own business? Or, the other big questions was, what does she want to do, write it down so she could visualise the steps and successful outcome!
Maybe there was a glimmer of hope as she was to meet her ex-boss who was visiting from China to see his daughter who was studying in New Zealand. Could he employ my client to find, organise and manage investments in New Zealand for him?
Could she find others who would like to employ her on a contract basis to assist with administration work in the property and construction industry? What about working with her girlfriend in the steel tubing business?
As well, I recommended her to visit a specialist employment advisor who could help her apply for part-time or contract positions in Auckland.
So the options had increased for her and now she had to follow up all her contacts and opportunities and be mindful of all possibilities that came before her.
Sometimes the way forward is blocked and a person needs to stop struggling, re–assess their situation, pivot and move in new direction.
The learning is patience, detachment, re-evaluation and then take a new pathway.
All life’s experiences are opportunities to learn. The challenge is to decide, what are the real lessons to be learnt?
