MY KNOWING

We are all here to live every situation we can imagine, good or bad; right or wrong; positive or negative. Why? So we can learn from the experience as part of the adventure of life.  Murray Kibblewhite

CASE STUDY – HOW TO DEAL WITH YOUR ADDICTION

SUBJECT: HEALTH

Deepak Chopra in his book, “Power Freedom and Grace” has this to say about addiction.

On page 176 he says:-

“Addiction is the number-one disease of civilization, and is directly and indirectly related to all other diseases. Besides physical addictions, such as addiction to food, tobacco, alcohol and drugs, there are psychological addictions, such as the addiction to work, to sex, to television, to shopping, to appearing young, to control, to suffering, to anxiety, to melodrama, to perfection.”

Further on he continues:-

Why are we addicted to all these things? We are addicted because we are not living from our source; we have lost our connection to our soul. The use of food, alcohol, or drugs is essentially a material response to a need that is not really physical at its foundation.”

Then on page 177 he says:-

“All addictions are really a search for the exultation of spirit, and this search has to do with the expansion of consciousness the intoxication of love, which is pure consciousness.”

Chopra provides the answer on page 177; –

“The only cure for addiction is spiritual.”

Then he provides us with seven steps:-

1) Observe yourself without judgement and say to yourself – “Thank you, God, for making me just as I am.”

2) Keep practising self awareness then insight, intuition, imagination and intention blossom.”

3) Accept that you are not the role you play. Don’t label, evaluate, analyse, or judge yourselves or others.

4) By knowing your true nature of reality it is possible to go beyond suffering.

5) You live and breath and function in the unknown all the time so you need to stop attaching yourself to a pretence; to an illusion which you pretend is the known.

6) You need to let go of conditioned thinking which is inflexible and binds you to your attachment to ideas, notions and beliefs.

7) Your Being has to transform and evolve so that every moment you live is a moment that is overflowing with possibilities not problems.

Learning

So what is the learning here?

Chopra summarises his steps on page 183 as:-

“Once  you have  broken the shackles of your own bondage, you can impart your own reality to every event in your life.”

You must know yourself, take full responsibility for your addiction, be prepared to let go cultural and religious ties and rise above the daily challenges that create your issue.

All life’s experiences are opportunities to learn. The challenge is to decide, what is the real lesson to be learnt?

How to use:-

1) Accept you need to change your Attitude and Actions on a daily basis.

2) Read, view, discuss and learn other ways. Set time aside daily to study.

3) Practice a new action until it becomes a better habit. Then discuss with your friends.

CASE STUDY – PEOPLE ARE NOT THEIR MISTAKES                                           SUBJECT BELIEFS

A recent Astrology quotation in the local newspaper said:-

“People make mistakes, but people are not their mistakes. For learning purposes, separate the person from the deed. Examine each factor and then reassemble and reconsider.”

Others have considered this situation. For example Deepak Chopra in his book  “Power Freedom and Grace”. On page 169 he says:-

“When a situation is troubling you then ask yourself, ‘What’s wrong right now?’ If you do this, then you realize that in this moment there are no problems. Separate the situation from the moment, because the situation will pass while the moment will remain. The situation always transforms, but every moment remains perfect and unchanged.”

Further down on page 170 he says:-

“Keep your attention on this moment. This moment is the only moment you have the power to act. You cannot take action in the past or in the future, so if you dwell on the past or future, you feel powerless. Life is in the moment. Therefore live in this moment.  Act in this moment. Intend in this moment. Stay in this moment. This is life-centred, present-moment awareness.

 Learning

So what is the learning here?

Chopra provides the answer; –

“Even if a situation is unpleasant, separate the situation from this moment, and surrender to the moment.

To surrender is to join the flow of life. The situation that surrounds this moment may be intolerable, but this moment is still perfect. By surrendering to this moment and doing whatever the situation demands, you are established in being while performing action.

This is to be in the world and not of it.”

CASE STUDY – WHY WOMEN HAVE TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS?

SUBJECT: RELATIONSHIPS

A beautiful or career driven woman can attract any man – but can she keep that man?  What are some elements that cause a relationship to become toxic?

Over the past few years and after reading “The Relationship Cure” written by John Gottman (See post 111) and “Truth Heals” by Deborah King (See post 115) I have decided to review my theory of relationships, especially with beautiful and career driven women. I had previously created a term BIIIIIGS (See post 111) to describe the challenges facing beautiful and career driven women seeking a fulfilling relationship with a man.

So I have created version 2 of this term which now reads as BBIIIIIIGS. So what does it mean?

  EXPLANATION
B Beautiful & Career Driven woman
B Bossy attitude
I Intelligent & well qualified
I Independent financially
I Impatient with others
I Intermittent Reinforcement
I Interfered by others
I Intimidating to men
G Girl or Woman
S Successful career

The three new additions to the term are Bossy, Intermittent Reinforcement and Interfered by others The first addition is obvious but the second and third ones need explanation.

Intermittent Reinforcement is where a relationship is manipulated by one dominant partner who withholds support, favours or sex until the other partner changes their mind, agrees with or stops an activity subtly demanded by the dominating partner. Often this habit is the result of being interfered with at an early age

Unfortunately beautiful women were once beautiful girls many of whom suffered some form of sexual interference or abuse at a young age and were interfered by others. The effects of early childhood interference can lead to long term personality issues. Gottman calls them “Enduring Vulnerabilities”

 Learning

So what is the learning here?

If you are a beautiful or career successful woman having difficulty developing a long term relationship then check whether you are a BBIIIIIIGS.

Any questions check with your Life Coach or therapist.

Create your own “Romantic Vulnerability” to allow a man to have the opportunity to “Protect You”.

Allow room for your man to grow his own life knowing that together you are stronger.

You may have to dig deep and endure the pain of discovering your hidden issues. But it will be worth the effort.
